HOW OWNERS CAN SPEND INCENTIVE POINTS

During the sim periods from the start of Spring Training until Opening Day, all General Managers are able to spend their accumulated Incentive Points to improve their team and their players. The deadline to have these submitted is the Opening Day sim. No incentive usages will be processed once the first games of the season have been simmed. Any points not used will carry over from season to season, so some of these plans could be obtained once a team waits a few seasons to accumulate the amount needed.

    Spending Plans
    Bronze
PointsUses: Various (see plan actions for usage limits)
    1
    Increase Team Cash by $200,000
    Usage:Unlimitted usage
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team cashing in team stock options.
    10
Increase Team Fan Interest 1 Point
Usage:Limitted to 5 Usages per offseason (Maximum of 50 IPs spent - Maximum of a 5 Fan Interest Point Increase
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending extra money on marketing campaigns to spur on more interest from fans, bringing more fans to the ballpark.
    25
    Change a Player’s Name
Usage:Can be used once per off season to change name (first, last, and/or nickname) of any computer created (fictional) player. Name cannot be changed to anything vulgar or offensive, and cannot be changed to a name of a real player, active or retired.
Real World:In real life, this would be just as if the player went through and legally had their name changed, such as Giancarlo "Mike" Stanton, or Metta World Peace in the NBA.
    25
Send a Player to the Stylist
Usage:Can be used once per off season to change a player’s hair color and/or beard/mustache type.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to send the player to a stylist or hair salon.
Notes:Beard options are: No Beard, Full Beard, Five O’Clock, Goatee 1, Goatee 2, Goatee 3, Mustache 1, Mustache 2, Mustache 3, and Mustache 4. Hair Color options are: Black, Brown, Red, Blonde, and Gray.
    35
Increase Player’s Personality Ratings 1 to 2 Pts.
Usage:Limitted to 2 Usages per offseason (Maximum of two bumps to any personality rating for an individual player.)
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to send the player to a motivational coach, or send him to a good psychiatrist or hypnotist.
Notes:The General Manager is given 1 bump for 35 IPs or 2 bumps for 70 IPs to improve a players Personality values in any one of the 6 personality ratings below.
    Leader Ability
    Loyalty
    Desire for Winning Team
    Greed
    Intelligence
    Work Ethic
Note that the values for all traits except Greed and Desire for a Winning Team go up when bumps are applied. These two traits improve when the value goes down.
    Silver
PointsUses: 2 actions per offseason, or 4 if no Gold or Platinum Plans are used.
    50
Increase a Player’s Popularity Rating by 1 Level
Usage:A General Manager can only use 2 Silver Plans per season, unless a GM decides not to use a Gold or Platinum Plan this season. A General Manager cannot spend the same silver plan on one player.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to run advertising and marketing campaigns focusing on this one player.
Notes:This increase will raise the national and local popularity ratings by 1 level each. If a player is already at the ’Extremely Popular’ level on either the national or local popularity level, there will still only be an increase of 1 level on the other side.
    50
    Increase Player’s Speed/Bunting Ratings
Usage:A General Manager can only use 2 Silver Plans per season, unless a GM decides not to use a Gold or Platinum Plan this season. A General Manager cannot spend the same silver plan on one player.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to assign a strength and conditioning coach to a player to focus on improving the player’s speed or bunting abilities.
Notes:The General Manager is given 5 points to spread out over the 3 speed categories and/or 2 bunting categories, as the General Manager sees fit. The General Manager could put all 5 in Stealing Ability, or do 2 in Stealing Ability, 2 in Running Instincts, and one in Running Speed. If a player does not have room to spend all 5 points, any left over points are lost, and not carriable to another player.

Notes:The General Manager is given 3 points to improve a player’s Defensive abilities in any of the 8 defensive ratings below. Please note, some rating values will increase the player’s defensive range at one or multiple positions, that the player has experience at.

A General Manager cannot spend the same silver plan on one player. This increase cannot be used in conjunction with the Gold plan to increase pitches for same player.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to assign a special coach to a player to focus on improving one or more pitches in this pitcher’s arsonal.
Notes:The general manager is given 2 points to improve the actual pitch ratings of any pitch the pitcher already has a rating of 1 or higher, but cannot be used to increase any pitch over a rating of 10. If the pitch is already over 10, it cannot be used on that pitch for that pitcher.

Notes:1 rating point increase in any of the following categories: Contact, Gap, Power, Discipline/Eye, Avoid K’s, Stuff, Control, Movement. Point increases are actually added to vs. L and vs. R values. If rating increase of actual ratings is higher than potential rating, difference is added to potential rating so that highest value from vs. L and vs. R is equal to potential rating, only if potential rating is within 1 point.

Have a Pitcher forget a pitch
Usage:A General Manager can only use 2 Silver Plans per season, unless a GM decides not to use a Gold or Platinum Plan this season. A General Manager cannot spend the same silver plan on one player.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team having the pitching coach convince the player that this pitch is not worth keeping in his arsenal any longer.
Notes:The pitch that the General Manager is asking for the player to forget must be rated below a 10 actual rating and a 10 potential rating. The pitcher must be on a minor league contract or have at least one more guaranteed contract year after this upcoming year in order for the pitcher to be eligible, to prevent a General Manager from trying to make a potential free agent less desirable for others to sign. This will include arbitration eligible players. If their next season could be a Free Agency season due to playing time, they are not eligible.

Improve a Player’s Injury Proneness Rating
Usage:A General Manager can only use 2 Silver Plans per season, unless a GM decides not to use a Gold or Platinum Plan this season. A General Manager cannot spend the same silver plan on one player.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team medical staff and conditioning staff work with the player to improve flexibility, adopt a healthier lifestyle, and/or better mechanics.
Notes:The injury rating that is visible shows up as one of the following labels: Wrecked, Fragile, Normal, Durable, and Iron Man. These labels are determined by factoring 4 hidden ratings, on a 0-200 scale for the following: Overall Proneness, Back Proneness, Legs Proneness, and Arms Proneness. This plan would decrease the value of each of these items by 40 points on that hidden 200 point scale.

Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to assign a special coach to a player to focus on improving one or more pitches in this pitcher’s arsenal.
Notes:The general manager is given 5 points to improve the actual pitch ratings of any pitch the pitcher already has a rating of 1 or higher, but cannot be used to increase any pitch over a rating of 10. If the pitch is already over 10, it cannot be used on that pitch for that pitcher.

Increase a Prospect’s Major Potential Ratings 1pt Each
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Gold Plan per season, unless more than 2 Silver Plans are used. The General Manager is allowed to use this increase on any player that is 23 years of age or younger.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to assign a special coach to a player to focus on improving the fundamentals of their game.
Notes:The General Manager is to post in the forums which player to increase. For hitters, the potential levels for Contact, Gap Power, Power, Eye, and Avoid K’s ratings will all be increased by 1 point. For pitchers, the potential levels for Stuff, Movement, and Control ratings will be increased by 1 point. There are no exceptions to this, as in a General Manager cannot request 2 points go into one category and none in another.
This item is cheaper than the actual ratings bump due to the fact that the actual bump is a guaranteed instant increase, whereas this increase could be negated by a decrease in development, or the player may never reach his potential.

Increase a Player’s Major Actual Ratings 1pt Each
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Gold Plan per season, unless more than 2 Silver Plans are used.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to assign a special coach to a player to focus on improving the fundamentals of their game. Or this could be a means of the General Manager of the team slipping the player some PED’s when the commish isn’t looking, ala Bud Selig throughout the 90’s.
Notes:The General Manager is to post in the forums which player to increase. For hitters, the actual levels for Contact, Gap Power, Power, Eye, and Avoid K’s ratings will all be increased by 1 point. For pitchers, the actual levels for Stuff, Movement, and Control ratings will be increased by 1 point. There are no exceptions to this, as in a General Manager cannot request 2 points go into one category and none in another. Once a player has reached his potential levels for any of the increased categories, no increase will be made to that area.

Modify Ballpark Factors - Small Plan (0.150 total change)
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a General Manager spending money to reconfigure parts of the ballpark, such as wall heights and outfield walls distances from home plate.
Notes:The GM is allowed to adjust ballpark factors by a total of .150 points. These points are spread among the available factors by using a spreadsheet model of a stadium. The factors that can be changed are Average (LHB), Average (RHB), Home Runs (LHB), Home Runs (RHB), Doubles and Triples. The overall factors for average and home runs are calculated from these and not counted in the adjustment.
To adjust factors, use This Spreadsheet. Enter the starting distances and heights of your current stadium walls. Then you can create a new set of walls and see the factors adjust. In this way you can favor left-handedness, or decrease doubles, but each change has some give and take with other factors.
When you are happy with your design, submit the new ballpark dimensions and factors to the GM. He will then do implement the exact fence measurements you submit, and adjust your existing park factors by the change amounts shown in the spreadsheet. Note that the spreadsheet may show .900 changing to .950 wher e your real in-game setting may change from 1.000 to 1.050. We are using only the relative changes.

Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to redesign the seating sections or add a new seating section to the ballpark.
Notes:The General Manager can increase the seating in the stadium to a maximum 65,000 seats. If the ballpark is already over 64,000 seats, the next increase will max the ballpark out at 65,000 seats.

Increase Your Team’s Fan Interest to 90/100
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to completely revamp the marketing and advertising campaigns around the ballclub and the ballpark.
Notes:This plan cannot be used in conjunction with the Bronze plan to increase fan interest. This increase also includes the increase of the stadium seating by 1000 seats.

Increase Your Market Size by 1 Pt
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:The real world equivilance would be as if the team signed on with a corporate sponsor, or helped the community to bring more businesses to the area. The more money in the team’s market, the more money the fans will spend at your ball park.
Notes:The game’s Team Finance Editor breaks the Market Size down on a scale of 0-20, with 0 being the worse. Using this spending item will increase your team’s Market Size 1 point on the 0-20 point scale. This item does not include the benefits of any other Platinum Plan item.

Increase Your Owner’s Patience Rating or Spending Rating by 1 Pt
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:In the real world, this would be similar to the General Manager having several very productive persuasive meetings with your Owner in the preseason, convincing him to either be more patient with the General Manager and the team, or to open up his wallet a little more to allow the General Manager a little more spending flexibility in the coming seasons.
Notes:The game’s Team Finance Editor breaks the Owner Patience and Owner Spending ratings down on a scale of 0-10, with 0 being the worse. Using this spending item will increase your owner’s Patience or Spending Ratings by 1 point on the 0-10 point scale.
Please note that the owner’s budget decisions are handed out after the World Series concludes, yet Incentive Point Spendings are not processed until the pre-season. Because of this, impact from this spending plan may not be evident until the budgets are issued after the current season. Team performance/spending could negate these changes before the owner issues new budgets.

Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:In the real world, this would be similar to scheduling several promotional days at the ballpark, enticing more and more fans to WANT to come to the ball park to see your team perform. Over time, they will fall for your propaganda and will feel more obligated to go see your horrid team play on a more regular basis, thus increasing your Fan Loyalty.
Notes:The game’s Team Finance Editor breaks the Fan Loyalty down on a scale of 0-10, with 0 being the worse. Using this spending item will increase your team’s Fan Loyalty 1 point on the 0-10 point scale. This item does not include the benefits of any other Platinum Plan item.

    Rebuild Your Team’s Stadium
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:In real life, this would be the same as a team spending money to completely rebuild your team’s stadium.
Notes: The General Manager will have the opportunity to design their own stadium (assign dimensions). The dimensions cannot be extreme, in that they must be close to a real MLB stadium’s dimensions. The ballpark factors for the new stadium will be determined by using the Ballpark Calculator Spreadsheet that we use for "Modify Ballpark Factors" plans. The league’s Commissioner will assist with this process. This plan also includes the Fan Interest change to 90/100 and the increase of the stadium seating by 1000 seats.

Breach remaining years of a player’s contract
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:The real world scenario could be as if the team found a clause in the player’s contract that was not met therefor allowing the team to legally breach the remaining seasons of the player’s current contract.
Notes:The player’s contract length is reduced to where it will expire at the end of the current season. The player remains on the team’s roster, but can be released (at the team’s expense), traded, or even resigned. Most players likely will opt for free agency over resigning. There is no further financial penalties after the current season for the team, unlike releasing a player with multiple seasons under contract remaining.

    Franchise Relocation
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
    Real World:Fairly self-explanatory.
Notes:If a General Manager accumulates 750 points and $20,000,000, they can relocate their team’s franchise, if they meet the following requirments:
    1) Current Fan Interest MUST BE BELOW 60
    2) The team must have $20,000,000 On Hand at the time the General Manager wishes to move (offseason or preseason)
    3) The General Manager must relocate to a city that would fall within the team’s exisiting division. If the General Manager wishes to relocate to another division, additional financial fees of $5,000,000 per season for 4 seasons will be added.
    4) The General Manager will pay the league $5 Million a year for 4 years and pay the $15 Million Relocation fee immediately
    5. This plan also includes the option to rebuild the stadium as well as includes the Fan Interest change to 90/100 and the increase of the stadium seating by 1000 seats.

    Restrictions:
    1. City/State location must be a legitimate potential Franchise Relocation market.
    2. Potential City/State names, Nicknames, Logos, etc are to be submitted to the Commissioner at the time of the request.
    3. Renaming of the organization, relocation market, logos, etc. are all to be approved by the league’s Front Office.
    4. The team will finish out the current/upcoming season in previous location before the move will take place.

Breach remaining years of a players contract
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:The real world scenario could be as if the team found a clause in the player’s contract that was not met therefor allowing the team to legally terminate the entire player’s current contract.
Notes:The player is ’assigned’ to Free Agency, thus nullifying the current contract and all subsequent season’s on the contract. There are no future player expenses from this contract. The player then becomes a free agent and any team, including the team that lost the player, can attempt to sign the player.

Hire a hitman to off your owner
Usage:A General Manager can only use 1 Platinum Plan per season.
Real World:The real world scenario could be looked at one of two ways. One, the fictional, What we would like to think really happened way would be that we spend money hiring a friend of a cousin to come cut the break cables or poison the morning coffee of our existing owner. However, what likely is happening would be that the owner is convinced to sell the team for the best interests of the franchise.
Notes:The General Manager will have the choice to choose from one of the following potential owners, or designate an owner with a name of their choice (after Front Office Staff approval). Created owners however would have their age, patience rating, and fiscal personality rating randomly generated using a tool that Scott has yet to write for us for this purpose. Patience and Fiscal Personality ratings are based upon a scale of 1 to 10, and age would be from 35 to 80.
