| Breaking News | | Monday, July 27th, 2020: Barrage of Hits Gets Bell SAL Award James Bell must have thought he was dreaming. First he went on an exceptional week-long batting spree, bashing the ball at a .458 clip, then the Asheville right fielder finds outs he has been chosen the league's best performer and gets the SAL Player of the Week Award.
He told SION reporters in the postgame, "It was a great week for me. I could see the ball so well. Plus some of the balls seemed to have good eyes, too."
For the week Bell batted .458 (11-24) with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.
Thus far this year Bell has hit .271 with 7 home runs and 42 RBIs. | | Thursday, July 16th, 2020: Hit Parade! Steward Pops 5 Hits! Lakewood first baseman Dan Steward could do no wrong in today's 14-5 win over the Tourists as he collected 5 hits.
"In every one of his at-bats things were in his favor...he got hitter's counts," the skipper of the Tourists said to the press corps after the game.
Steward agreed. "The key is getting ahead. Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit. You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
D. Steward singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off O. Tenorio in the 7th, flied out in the 8th and struck out in the 9th.
Steward on the season is batting .367 with 3 home runs. His totals include 20 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has played in 38 games. | | Thursday, July 2nd, 2020: Hits Galore! Ewing Drills 5 Hits! If the Asheville Tourists know how best to pitch the Greenville left fielder Will Ewing they didn't tip their hand today. Instead Ewing showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Tourists pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Drive to a 7-2 triumph at Drive Stadium.
He told SION reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The Asheville skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that...blindfold him...and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
W. Ewing tripled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
So far in 2020, Ewing is batting .333 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | RF Howard Bolton | ruptured bicep tendon | 9 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 48-72, .400 PCT | | Position in Division | 7th, 27.0 GB | | Record at home | 24-36, .400 PCT | | Record on the road | 24-36, .400 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-8, .273 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 14-17, .452 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 14-16, .467 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 34-56, .378 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 8-20, .286 PCT | | Record in May | 11-18, .379 PCT | | Record in June | 11-14, .440 PCT | | Record in July | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in August | 2-7, .222 PCT |
