| Breaking News | | Friday, June 11th, 2021: Cincinnati Catcher Out D'Angelo Souza at first refused to leave today's Los Angeles (N)-Cincinnati game after he suffered a torn abdominal muscle while running the bases. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I'm a competitor," the feisty Cincinnati catcher said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Souza out of action for 13 months.
So far in 2021 Souza is batting .338 with 2 home runs, 27 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 70 hits in 207 at-bats and a .381 OBP. | | Wednesday, June 9th, 2021: Ramírez Rips Cincinnati for 5 Hits All game long Houston's Mario Ramírez was rattling the walls at Minute Maid Park and banging out base hits against the Cincinnati Reds and when the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a career day, a 5-hit day, but no victory. The Reds defeated the Astros 8-7 to take a little of the glitter of the occasion away.
Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 25-year-old shortstop lamented, "To get 5 hits and win a ballgame, that would have been a very special day. But we didn't win today. It's not easy to be happy when you lose. Only losers do that."
In all, Ramírez collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a spot in the record book.
M. Ramírez hit a solo-shot off M. Watt in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th, flied out in the 9th and hit an RBI double in the 11th.
This year Ramírez is hitting .221, produced 35 RBIs and 12 home runs, scored 30 times and gotten on base at a .284 rate. | | Monday, May 31st, 2021: James Greenfield Will Miss 1-2 Weeks The Cincinnati Reds were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that James Greenfield was likely to be out for 1-2 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Texas Rangers. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a strained back muscle. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Cincinnati manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until James is back in action."
Currently Greenfield has a 4-8 won-lost record in 17 starts with a 4.62 ERA. He also has 77 strikeouts in 87.2 innings. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 31-35, .470 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 6.0 GB | | Record at home | 17-19, .472 PCT | | Record on the road | 14-16, .467 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-3, .400 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 8-8, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 9-9, .500 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 22-26, .458 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 11-16, .407 PCT | | Record in May | 13-14, .481 PCT | | Record in June | 7-5, .583 PCT |
