What a day for Jeff Owens of the GCL Phillies! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen everyday! He ripped GCL pitching apart at GCL Grounds and sparked the Phillies to a 14-5 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing up his special day 5-5.
"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Owens told SION reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
J. Owens singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run double in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 7th.
This year Owens is batting .333 with 6 home runs and 25 RBIs. In 27 games he has scored 24 times.

 | Wednesday, July 14th, 2021: Red-Hot Bat! Lawson Collects Cycle!
GCL center fielder Daniel Lawson had a field day today at Orioles Stadium, battering GCL pitching for the cycle. He sparked the Orioles to a 12-6 triumph over the Phillies by going 4-4 with 3 runs batted in and scoring 3 runs.
So far in 2021 Lawson is hitting .291 with 1 home run, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 23 hits and played in 25 games.

 | Tuesday, July 6th, 2021: Cao Blanks GCL
In a splendid 1-0 shutout performance, Shuan-yan Cao of the GCL Marlins subdued the GCL Orioles on a 4-hitter.
His manager said in postgame comments, "He kept hitting his spots and putting up zeroes."
Cao registered 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Cao has made 5 starts, tossed 36.2 innings, struck out 26 batters and walked 8. His record is 3-1 with a 2.21 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .180 batting average.
