If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Javier Martínez showed how it's done as he went 5 for 6 against the GCL Nationals and helped the GCL Cardinals beat them 4-3.
The manager for the Nationals told the SION sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames."
If Martínez keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise.
J. Martínez singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 11th.
This season Martínez is batting .373 with 11 RBIs, 37 runs scored and 1 home run.

 | Sunday, May 24th, 2020: Kondo Slams 5 Hits for GCL
5 hits in 6 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day, and when it does, it's exciting. Today Norihisa Kondo of the GCL Braves had a sensational 5-6 game against GCL at Braves Ballpark. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark in his team's 10-2 shellacking of the Cardinals.
In the postgame press conference he joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off...Right, skipper?"
N. Kondo struck out in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
So far this season Kondo is batting .433 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He has 42 hits in 97 at-bats, 5 walks and a .471 OBP. Kondo has played in 23 games.

Manny Chávez of the Cardinals relied on a sharp eye and a quick bat to outpace all other Gulf Coast League hitters last week and collect the Player of the Week Award.
He hit .625 with 15 hits in 24 at-bats, no home runs and 7 RBIs.
Thus far in 2020 Chávez has hit .482 with 2 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 16 runs.
