The top batter in the Appalachian League last week was Bill West, who batted .559 and towered above everybody with a 7-game hitting barrage.
During the week West banged out a .559 batting average (19-34), 1 home run, 9 RBI and scored 10 runs.
Today the Johnson City right fielder received the APP Player of the Week Award.
This year West is hitting .373 with 91 hits, 4 home runs, 27 RBIs and has scored 50 runs.

 | Wednesday, May 27th, 2020: Red-Hot McGinnis Scorches Cardinals
It was high-5 day at Ballpark of Elizabethton, at least for Jeff McGinnis of the Elizabethton Twins. He got a lot of high-5's from his teammates for his outstanding hitting against the Johnson City Cardinals. McGinnis smashed 6 hits in 7 at-bats on a his record-setting day, leading his club to a 18-14 win.
His manager said, "Jeff was hitting everything. It really was a special game for him."
In the other dugout the opposing manager told SION beat writers, "He ambushed my boys today. Obviously we didn't have much success against him, but luckily, tomorrow is another day. Hopefully it will be our day to shine."
J. McGinnis struck out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off M. Dorsey in the 9th and hit a GRAND SLAM off O. Gallagher in the 10th.
This year McGinnis has batted at a .360 pace with 73 hits, 7 home runs, 44 RBIs and scored 48 times.

| Wednesday, May 27th, 2020: McGinnis Touches All the Bases, Hits Cycle
Jeff McGinnis really put the hurt on the Johnson City Cardinals today, leading the Twins to a 18-14 win. He tagged them for 6 hits in 7 at-bats and hit for the cycle. McGinnis also had 9 RBI and 4 runs scored in the game at Ballpark of Elizabethton.
Hitting for the cycle is one of the most unique feats in baseball at any level. The odds are near astronomical against a player hitting a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game.
The Elizabethton first baseman spoke with SION reporters after the game telling them, "I got some great pitches to hit . . . all 6 times the pitches didn't go where the pitcher wanted them to go. I hit their mistakes. Hitting for the cycle was great, but winning the game and helping my team is far more important. Individual accomplishments are fine, but I want to win, too."
