The Twins whipped the Orioles 13-4 at Ballpark of Elizabethton and Jeff McGinnis had a big hand in the win. The Twins first baseman came to the plate 5 times and collected 5 hits. It was a good day for McGinnis and a tough day for Bluefield.
"I just go up there and whale away and hope it hits the barrel of the bat," he said. "There really isn't any plan."
Plan or not, McGinnis delivered today -- 5-5 is outstanding in any league.
J. McGinnis hit a two-run single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
Looking at his season stats, McGinnis has compiled a .379 batting average and a .452 on-base percentage, while hitting 8 home runs and driving in 51 runs.

Jesús Vargas really sizzled at the plate in today's 13-2 win over Orioles. The Bristol third baseman blistered Bluefield for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
"Vargas was too tough to get out today," the Orioles skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
J. Vargas singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
This year Vargas is batting .486 with 1 home run. He has scored 10 runs and driven in 15.

Who needs batting practice? Millard Mathis of Danville apparently doesn't as he battered Bluefield with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 13-7 win.
He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 6 day... will my name be in the record books now?"
M. Mathis singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, doubled in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
A look at his 2020 stats shows Mathis with a .364 average, 5 home runs, 45 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He has played in 45 games.
